Core 2 Vs I5

The Core i5-9400F 6-Core and the Ryzen 5 2600X both have 6 cores, which is not likely to be a limiting factor for gaming.

  1. Core 2 Vs I Series

The Core i5-8400 is Intel's most affordable option to go beyond a quad-core setup on the desktop. With a price point of $190, it is only half the price of Core i7-8700K, but delivers nearly the same performance in games and can also compete with the Ryzen 6c12t processors thanks to its good single-threaded performance and high boost clock.

Core 2 Vs I Series

The core i3 processors, now in their third generation Ivy Bridge line have supplanted the core 2 duo line in the entry level domain. In fact the old core 2 duo line was overthrown by the first two generations of i3 processors long ago. The new hierarchy of Intel chips, in ascending order of computing power, are the core i3, i5 and i7 processors. Intel Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 CPUs have been around for a few years now, but some buyers still get stumped whenever they attempt to build their own systems and are forced to choose among the three. With the more recent Haswell (fourth generation ) architecture now on store shelves, we expect.

The Ryzen 5 2600X has 6 more threads than the Core i5-9400F 6-Core. The Core i5-9400F 6-Core has one thread per physical core, whereas the Ryzen 5 2600X uses hyperthreading and has 2 logical threads per physical core.

Core 2 vs i7

Multiple threads are useful for improving the performance of multi-threaded applications. Additional cores and their accompanying thread will always be beneficial for multi-threaded applications. Hyperthreading will be beneficial for applications optimized for it, but it may slow others down. For games, the number of threads is largely irrelevant, as long as you have at least 2 cores (preferably 4), and hyperthreading can sometimes even hit performance.

Core

More important for gaming than the number of cores and threads is the clock rate. Problematically, unless the two CPUs are from the same family, this can only serve as a general guide and nothing like an exact comparison, because the clock cycles per instruction (CPI) will vary so much.

The Core i5-9400F 6-Core and Ryzen 5 2600X are not from the same family of CPUs, so their clock speeds are by no means directly comparable. Bear in mind, then, that while the Ryzen 5 2600X has a 0.7 GHz faster frequency, this is not always an indicator that it will be superior in performance, despite frequency being crucial when trying to avoid GPU bottlenecking. In this case, however, the difference is probably a good indicator that the is superior.
