Notepad++ Spell-checking Plug-In

How to activate spell check in wordpad

Dec 28, 2016  I have used tinySpell in the past and it was quite good but eventually I decided on Jarte which is a WordPad and NotePad replacement. There is a free version with no nags and extra features like Spellcheck, Auto Save, Tabs, Favorite files and more. It does not spellcheck 'as you type' but you run the spellcheck when you finish typing and it will find mistakes and suggest other words, you.

How can the answer be improved? Media

  • How to Do Spell Check In WordPad. WordPad is probably the simplest text editor next only to notepad that helps users to create and edit various types of documents and primarily the rich text format documents.

Following main features:

  • Underlining spelling mistakes
  • Iterating through all mistakes in document
  • Finding mistakes only in comments and strings (For files with standard programming language syntax e.g. C++, Basic, Tex and so on)
  • Possible usage of multiple languages (dictionaries) simultaneously to do spell-checking.
  • Getting suggestions for words by either using default Notepad++ menu or separate context menu called by special button appearing under word.
  • Able to add words to user dictionary or ignore them for current session of Notepad++
  • Using either Aspell library (needs to be installed), either Hunspell library (Dictionaries by default should be placed to %Plugin Config Dir%Hunspell)
  • A lot of customizing available from Plugin settings (Ignoring/Allowing only specific files, Choosing delimiters for words, Maximum number of suggestions etc)
  • Support for downloading and removing Hunspell dictionaries through user friendly GUI interface
  • Ability to quickly change current language through context menu or DSpellCheck sub-menu.

Windows: Most office suites and word processors have spell-check built in, but if you're working in a tool like Notepad, Wordpad, a web browser, or another tool that won't automatically check your spelling, tinySpell is a Windows utility that'll cover your bases.

Notepad ++ Spellcheck

The beauty of tinySpell is that it watches any text you enter in any field in just about any application, whether it's a web browser, a code editor, or your favorite chat app that may not alert you to spelling mistakes. It beeps when it detects an error, and you right-click to choose the word you meant to type. You can configure it to beep and show you a spelling tip when it detects an error, or just change its taskbar icon color to let you know it found an error. It'll also check the spelling of any text you copy to the clipboard. You can whitelist specific apps so tinySpell won't check your spelling in them (again, like your code editor), and there's a built in dictionary and thesaurus.

Let's be clear, tinySpell is by no means new. It's been around for a very long time. It has come a long way though, and is fully compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8, in just about every application. It has a tiny memory footprint, and for the low cost of free and running quietly in the background, you get system-wide spelling correction, which is pretty useful. It's also a portable app, if you want to toss it on a USB drive or in Dropbox and run it anywhere you go.
