I did not want to reinstall drivers for my first solution as I often wonder if they might be product specific, as people believe ATK drivers may be. During my attempt to troubleshoot, I did get the right side of the keyboard to light up while in the ROG Gaming Center app.
I eventually wound up in 'C:Program Files (x86)ASUSATK PackageATK Hotkey' and double-clicked 'HControl.exe' to execute it. That fixed it. If Hcontrol is no longer in your startup list in Sysconfig, make sure it is added.

1. you need to enable hidden 'files, folders and drives' via Folder Options.
2. place a shortcut in the following location
C:Users<YOURUSERNAME>AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuProgramsStartup

3. Reboot.
Make sure to go back and re-hide 'files, folders and drives' when you are finished!!
