Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forums. I'm glad to assist you with your issue.

Original title: Microsoft account security code: Hi all, over the past few weeks, i have been recieving text messages with the following text.

  • Did you get a text from 732873? Look below to get information about this number. Also report unwanted texts to help verify who is using this SMS short code. 732873 is a short code number. Short Codes are generally 5 or 6 digit numbers that can send SMS and MMS messages to mobile phones.
  • Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for posting your question here. If you are getting an interruption page from signing into your account asking you to verify your email address or phone number using the code, please be advised that this is a new update coming from Microsoft.

As what I've understood on your issue, you received a security code that you didn't request.

Please ignore the security code that you received if you are not the one that requested it. If you received it via email, do not click any link on that email unless it is a trusted sender.

Here are some pointers how to determine if the email is legitimate Microsoft email:

·The email sent by Microsoft is marked as safe. The sender is *** Email address is removed for privacy ***.

·If you are viewing the emails on web, you should see the Green Trusted Sender shield next to the legitimate email. The Trusted Sender shield does not always display when viewing email through a client. The best advice is to mark any emails that they are not sure about as Phishing scams and not click through the links. If you accidentally clicked through links on the malicious emails, you should run their anti-malware programs.
